A Poem For Mom

What is that I remember

by Stu Mark
June 30th, 2010

What is that I remember
Where am I in the moment
Is there a sound
Or is there an else

We see what we see
As we shut our eyes
As we open our minds
We see what we see

Simple and yet not
The life is what we're given
The paper we've signed
The agreement we've brokered
As we sail through the Sun

Do as you do
And don't look behind
But the sky is yours
As is the water
Drown not in your sorrow
But in your own bravado
As you burst forth
Make your way home

This is my creation, so be kind. Thank you.

For my buddy Jim, who is far funnier than I.

My Great Peace Initiative - If I were President, I would: Recall all our military from all over the world. Keep only the military presence in nations whose governments and populace want our presence. End all active engagements. Create full-bore diplomatic campaigns. Prove to the world, in one movement, that we are powerful because we are smart and savvy and bold, that we are not crusaders for democracy, that we are not proselytizers of the good word of Republic. Yes, we will have to deal with a shift in economics as a result of the Peace Doctrine. We'll have to deal with a shift in forms of energy. It will be dramatic, it will be intense, it will be painful. But the transition will not take any lives. And, on the other side of the transition, there will be true peace and prosperity.

I Was An Evil Fly

|

Back in the summer of 2001, I was cast as the voice of an evil fly. I had answered a cattle call ad, made it through a few rounds of casting, and eventually landed the part of the nemesis for an animated short. It was created specifically as an attempt to land a slot at OutFest, a gay/lesbian film festival in Los Angeles. The script had some laugh-out-loud moment and a noble intent. The other actors and animators made the finished short a standout at OutFest 2001, where it premiered at the Directors Guild Of America on Sunset. It was well received, and the creative team, Rick Ziegler and Michael Trull, went on to produce more animated shorts of a similar vibe.

I recently ran across a copy of the film - thought I'd share it with the folks who might care.

Here's another response to those folks who want to suggest that the 70s weren't a great decade for music:

Two gems here - The first is the visual, which is footage of the photo shoot of Pink Floyd's "Animals." Accompanying this footage is the unreleased version of "Pigs On The Wing," which combines the first and last tracks of the album, connected via an unheard guitar solo. Fascinating stuff.
