I've been studying the 2005 film Stay for the past week and felt strongly enough about it that I wanted to recommend it to folks.
It stars Ewan McGregor and Ryan Gosling, and while I don't want to give any part of it away, I will say that it would fit in nicely in the genre popularized by Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock. The writing is taut, the direction intimate, and... well, this is something audiences don't normally mention: editing. I found the editing in this film to be the best editing of just about any film I've ever seen. Some of the transitions are jaw-droppingly gorgeous - you will hit the rewind button more than once, I guarantee.
And, if you are someone who prefer calculated risks, I say this: of the near 18,000 votes on IMDB, it averaged 6.8 stars, and on Amazon, it has an average rating of four-and-a-half stars out of five. While everyone's opinion is different, I can say that Leslie and I both love this film, and spent about an hour discussing it the other night. (oh, and folks, teach your kids to hold out for a partner with whom they can hold a lengthy conversation.)
