Stu News and Photos

My name is Stu and I am here to share what I can.

I took a drive down south to the South Coast Wilderness Park a few weeks ago. The park is about 20,000 acres of protected land, located near the southern end of Newport Beach, California. I live in Redondo Beach, about 45 minutes north.

As I live in Los Angeles County, there's a lot of humanity here. That's nice, because you get a greater pool of resources from which to create good schools and such. The downside is that there are a lot of people, buildings, cars, etc. Every once in a while, I need a rest, a time away from the sea of human existence that I live in, and so I take to the wild.

These pictures are from that trip. I drove to the edge of the park and then walked in, hiking down a trail, examining the flora. Beautiful, relaxing, real. A fine thing indeed.

That looks liike a lovely place, Stu. It is so freakin' dreary and cold here in New England. We've had about ten minutes of spring, about eleven days ago.

Hi Stu. I googled South coast Wilderness Park and didn't come up with a good set of directions to where you were, which looks wonderful and which is totally near to me. Could you comment with a bit of direction for me?

Head towards Laguna Beach.
Look for Newport Coast Road. From PCH, drive north on Newport Coast Road to Ridge Park Road. Take Ridge Park Road east to a dead end. Park where you can, and hike into the park.

Go to http://maps.google.com and look for Newport Coast, CA. That should give you a map of the area that will help you follow those roads.

:-)
