Watching the details of Governor Palin's life unfurl before my eyes is like watching a flower unfold at high-speed. Here's a small list of the neato things the Republican Vice Presidential candidate has been up to over the course of her adult life:
As mayor of Wasilla Alaska, with a population of less than seven thousand, she procured federal funding through the use of a major pet peeve of Senator John McCain, earmarking. But not just a little money, we're talking about an estimated 27 Million dollars over three years. How big is your town? How much federal funding do you get? Oh, and when the earmarking was happening, McCain listed them in his catalog of objectionable earmarks. And now he picks her for Veep.
But wait, there's more. When she was mayor, she went to the librarian of the town and tried to have certain books banned. And when the poor librarian attempted to, you know, stand up for the First Amendment, Mayor Palin threatened her job. And now we're supposed to support her as the fall-back position if 72 year-old McCain takes the dirt nap.
And wait, even better, and hold on to your hats, kids, 'cause this one is the best one yet - Back in June of this year, Governor Palin spoke at a church, talking about her family and such things, speaking about her faith, etc. Fine, fine, no problems, everybody gets to pray, everybody gets to extol their religious beliefs in front of the like-minded. Except... She asked the congregation to pray for a proposed gas pipeline... and... She suggested, in plain English, that the congregation "Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right also for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending out on a task that is from G-d." - yes, ladies and gentlemen, apparently Governor Palin has such a direct relationship with The Lord that she knows that G-d has tasked America with occupying Iraq.
Now, there's more, but those are some pretty special facts. So, I say this with deepest conviction, if you're planning on voting for Senator Obama, please find time to convince others to do the same, and if you're planning on voting for Senator McCain, please contact me and give me a chance to plead my case, because it's grown-up time now and we need to get serious.

You've been oddly silent on the whole Palin issue. I was beginning to wonder if you were ok. :)
Perhaps you were doing what the national media could not, wait until you'd have enough information to actually inform an opinion, rather than just not like her because she's a Republican.
I dig that about you.
I may be pro-Democrat, but I'm not anti-Republican. And if the Republican party put up a candidate that was considerably better than the Dems, I'd vote that way - as I said, it's grown-up time.
Yup, that's what I meant.
I always felt that you were passionate, but also fair. Which is why I have been avoiding reading much, politically, aside from your comments here and there.
And let's not overlook her outlandish abuse of power when she attempted to get her ex brother-in-law fired from his post of State Trooper...
ooh ooh, and how she said it was g*d's work that the pipeline was created in Alaksa and that our country's boys are occupying Iraq...
I have to tell you, listening to her RNC speech yesterday made me want to rip out my car stereo and smash it on the ground! "Lies. Lies I tell you!"
Melissa - I hear you - I've been reading a fair amount of the media's coverage, as well as partisan bloggage, and it's hard work to separate the fact from rhetoric on all sides. But it's also fun, so I shall sally forth.
Danger - That hasn't been proven yet. So far, just accusations, which is why I haven't written about it. The story may be true, but it may be a smear by the ex-brother-in-law, in retribution for Governor Palin's sister's custody fight.
Having said that, we can mention the fact that Governor Palin supported and endorsed Diane Keller to succeed her as Mayor of Wasilla, instead of endorsing her husband's mother, Faye Palin. That's class, ladies and germs, that's class.
Danger - yeah, I heard about the pipeline and Iraq. In fact, if you read the actual post that you're commenting on, I wrote a big fat paragraph about it.
Yup, the more we see, the less we want to. She appears to be quite a pip.
Sully - If she were just a mayor, I'd be fine about everything, 'cause the country is full of dubious mayors - look at Detroit's Mayor Kilpatrick. And there's a ton more examples - my own neighborhood is filled with corruption, including an ex-Orange County Sheriff. The fact that she's done all this stuff as a governor is a little disturbing, but it's Alaska, so I'd still sorta be ok with it. But for Vice President, well, this is just way past Dan Quayle.
Having said that, Senator McCain is not a bad candidate. I've read his bio and, while I disagree with a bunch of his legislative efforts, some of his choices have been close to my liking, and his prisoner-of-war story is as gripping as it gets. I wouldn't have voted for Captain Cranky Pants, I mean Senator McCain any way, but his choice for Veep is driving me to distraction. Wish I lived in a swing state.
Have we forgotten The Crusades? The Inquisition? The centuries of effort to separate church from state?! The struggles to attain and procure human individual rights? Obviously she and all who support her have.
