Let me start this post with a preface. I am a big fan of blogging.la and find that their blogging team is a wonderful collection of writer/observers.
That said, there was a post on b.la that I commented on, and after, decided I would post the whole thing here. The comment started with this post, which talks about a community-wide game called Streetwars Assassin. The game revolves around players who either are assassins or targets. The assassins use squirt guns against their assigned targets. What follows is my public comment that I submitted to b.la on that post, the author of said post clearly endorsing the game:
I'm a big fan of b.la, so please understand that I post this with all due respect.
Do we really need an L.A. based game that involves guns? How many innocent citizens will receive quite a scare when they see a stalker step from the bushes, and point a "gun" at another human?
I am a proponent of community-wide gaming, and I especially love efforts like: http://www.pacmanhattan.com/
But I also urge anyone who reads this comment to consider the following: http://www.irol.com/avc/Fact_Sheet_About_Toy_Guns.html
Again, I *heart* blogging.la and wish you all nothing but success. Please consider my comment as the love of a friend, all intentions being positive. Thank you.
I want communities to participate in games. I want peace in L.A. and I want my kids to have a great life. But guns are bad, and we should melt them all, including the toy guns. There are other ways to hunt and there are other toys to play with and there are other games to play.
