No Knock?
The conservatives are continuing the assault on our civil rights. Ugh.
No Knock
By Gil Scott-Heron
(transcribed by Stu Mark)
You explained it to me
I must admit
But just for the record
You were talkin' shit
Long rap about No Knock being legislated
For the people you've always hated
In this hell-hole that you weave
Called Home
No Knock
The Man will say
To keep that man from beating his wife
No Knock
The Man will say
To protect people from themselves
No Knockin'
Head Rockin'
InterShockin'
Shootin'
Cussin'
Killin'
Cryin'
Lyin'
And bein' White
No Knock
No Knocked on my brother Fred Hampton
Bullet holes all over the place
No Knocked on my brother Michael Harris
And jammed a shotgun against his skull
For my protection?
Who's gonna protect me from you?
The likes of you?
The nerve of you.
To talk that shit
Face to face
Your tomato face
Dead panned
Your dead pan deadening another freedom plan
No Knockin'
Head Rockin'
InterShockin'
Shootin'
Cussin'
Killin'
Cryin'
Lyin'
And bein' White
But if you're wise
No Knocker
You'll tell your No Knockin' lackeys
Ha!
No Knock on my brother's head
No Knock on my sister's head
No Knock on my brother's head
No Knock on my sister's head
And double-lock your door
Because soon someone may be No Knocking
Ha! Ha!
For you!
No Knock

Christmas - the lights, the music, Santa ...

AAAAAAAAAGH! I will kill them all in their banks. Global Financiers. Global Corporations. One world, One Prison. One.... sin under god... with which all trust is escaping...
...Fuckers...
This country is going to hell in a handbasket.
I have a quote of aunt laura saying how scared she is; for this counrty is loosing it's grip / and she says that this 'country' with all of it's problems is still the greatest place in the world... I think she's right, although I hear Bali is really really nice this time of year...
Yes, Aunt Lora said that ("this country, with all its problems, is still the greatest place in the world") many times while I was growing up.
As a kid, I even began to believe it.
But while still a kid growing up in the south, I asked her why drinking fountains, and public bathrooms, and many other facilities, had signs that said "white" and "colored". She couldn't give me an answer but told me I could not use the facilities marked "colored" (and being the stubborn person I was/am, I wanted to use the facilities marked "colored" just because she said I couldn't).
At the time, I was too young to understand the implications of how these signs on public facilities were a symptom of the lack of "greatness" of our country.
The years rolled by, and along came events like Viet Nam, Watergate, Iraq, Enron, and many many others, and I questioned Aunt Lora on how to measure the greatness of a country. She held her ground, but I think she is just being stubborn (it runs in the family), she too thinks Bali is really nice.
When I was growing up in this "great" country, life was simple. There was good and there was evil. We were taught in school that we were good and the communists were bad. We even practiced (in school) for what might happen if those evil communists attacked us ...
"Class, get under your desk, clasp your hands behind your neck, and ... "
"And what, teacher?"
"And lock and load, class."
We even saw it on TV ... "are you now, or have you ever been, a member of ..."
It was easy to believe how great we were when the world was full of those evil communists.
Then, the wall came down, and those evil communists went away.
So, now, what's keeping us from being the greatest country?
To quote Pogo:
"We have met the enemy, and they are us!"
Note to the folks at NSA reading this ... if you send your friends in black to check me out ... tell them that they no longer have to knock :)
